Paris - No words needed

Two weeks ago we got a chance to visit Paris again, and we had some other (good) surprises.

First day:

We started driving at 6h30 and arrived to Giverny (70 km from Paris) at 12h00.
  • We visited Monet's house: The garden is fabulous.

  • Then we went to Versailles to visit the Palace

  • Then, the most exciting part for me - returning to the place were I lived 22 years ago: Bois D'arcy, Allée des Jonquilles!

The biggest disappointment was to see that the place where we used to buy candies is now a Lidl! :(

Second day:

We were staying at a friends house near Orleans, and we was kind enought to make us visit,
  • The Chappel of Orleans

  • The city has typical wooden houses

  • The Old City Hall
  • But also modern buildings

  • Chambord Castel

Third day:

We left our hosts’ home at 6h30 to go to Paris, we arrived to the city at 8h00, but we took at least two more hours to get to the parking garage near our destination!
  • First stop - Opera Garnier

  • Walking near the sena is always pleasant, but we were on a op-on op-off bus

  • On our way to the Rodin Museum we saw "Les Invalid" and “La Place de la Concorde, although our pictures don’t make them justice…

  • Rodin Museum

  • After the Rodin Museum we went to the "Musée D'Orsay" - it's open until 21h15 on Thursdays! I was more interested by the fact that this had been a train station but the paintings were worthwhile. Sorry, we were not allowed to take pictures, and "someone" forgot to take a global picture from the outside! :D
  • Tower Eiffel by night must be amazing, but there was a huge queue and it was about to close in one hour...

Fourth day:
  • Eiffel tower opens at 9h30, we wanted to be there at 9h00, but we were so tired that we just arrived 5 minutes before opening. There was already a large queue for the lift, and a smaller one for the stairs. So we climbed our way to the 2 nd floor, as I did when I was younger, and then we took the lift to the top floor. I don’t really know if I have been there before, but I don’t remember it being like that, so it was probably my first time up there.

  • Catacombs: The catacombs are located in old stone mines. As the mines had to be closed for security reasons, and the town cemeteries were so full that there were a contamination source, the decision was to take the bones from the cemeteries to the mine. I wanted to go to the catacombs ever since I heard about them, but nobody wanted to go with me. This time we went there! I really enjoyed the mines part, but the bones, really… No! It’s impressive how many they are, but it was not what I was interested in seeing. Some people like it so much that they even stole skulls. At the exit there was a guard to check our bags, to be sure we didn’t take nothing. Who does that? Gross!
  • They have a couple of very cute sculptures and we can see what they have done with some places that collapsed.

  • And we still made it to the Louvre Museum, which is oppened s until 22h on Fridays

Fifth day:

  • After four days of running around, being up all day, going to bed late and getting up early we were really tired. But, we still had one main goal: monmartre, to see the "Sacré coeur"! It's really beautiful, our photos don't make it justice!

  • We still went to the Dali Space, but I wouldn't recomend it. It has some good pieces but most of it are drawing...

  • I don't know how we've got the energy to get to the Moulin Rouge Street, which made me remind off the red light district in Amsterdam.

And off we went, back to Holland!

Never thought it would get me :D

By this time, I should be arriving Faro. Flying over the “Ria Formosa”, seeing all that beautiful islands… But thanks to a great volcano, which started his activity more than one month ago, I’m still in The Netherlands.

Yesterday I checked the EUROCONTROL's, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation website and on the airport's website. There were no news regarding the ash cloud.

This morning I got up at 7h a.m. to be sure I would be on time at the airport. When I got to the airport, as usual, I checked the board for my flight – it was cancelled! I stood up in line for 2 hours to book another flight, and I also postponed my return… so let’s see if Wednesday it’s possible to flight.

I just think we would deserve a call or a text message. My partner lost a morning of work, we spent fuel, time and we had to pay the park, for nothing. And we will have to do it all over again… :(

It’s nobody’s fault, remember that! It’s just nature telling us she is bigger than us!

I hope to see you soon!

Queen's Day

The most appreciated Dutch holiday is without doubt the 30th of April – Queens day! It’s their national holiday and the queen’s birthday. Well, it’s celebrated in the 30th of April since 1949, because it was the Birthday of Queen Juliana, the present queen was born in the 31st of January but she officially celebrates on the 30th of April.
